The University of Wisconsin Milwaukee has offered graphic design courses in its curriculum for many years. The classes are designed to give students a foundation of the principles and techniques used in the field, as well as allowing them to develop their own design styles and approaches. In addition to traditional classes, the university also offers an online degree program, allowing students to pursue their graphic design studies from anywhere in the world.

UWM’s curriculum for its graphic design program is comprehensive and covers topics such as color theory, drawing, digital imaging, illustration, typography, page layout, web design, and more. Students have access to industry-standard software programs such as Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator to hone their skills. The university offers a Bachelor of Science degree in Graphic Design that requires 120 credits of coursework. Depending on the student’s background and interests they may choose a concentration in either Print & Publications or Digital Media & Animation. Within these concentrations there are numerous elective courses available including motion graphics design, responsive web design, 3D modeling & animation.

In addition to classroom instruction and studio experience with faculty members who are professional designers themselves UWM also offers students opportunities for internships with well-known companies throughout the region. This allows students to gain hands-on experience working with real clients on real projects.
