Who Is the New Director of Chanel?

There is exciting news in the fashion world as Chanel has recently announced their new Director. After the passing of Karl Lagerfeld in 2019, the French fashion house has been on the hunt for someone to fill his shoes.

In July 2021, it was announced that Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel’s closest collaborator and right-hand man, Virginie Viard, would take over as the new Director of Chanel. Viard had been serving as the creative director since Lagerfeld’s passing and had been instrumental in bringing fresh ideas to the brand.

Viard has an impressive resume, having worked at Chanel for over thirty years. She started as an intern with Karl Lagerfeld and quickly climbed the ranks to become his studio director in 1997. Her experience with Lagerfeld allowed her to understand his vision and bring it to life in her own unique way.

As Director, Viard has big shoes to fill but she is up for the challenge. In a recent interview with Vogue, she stated that she wants to bring a more feminine touch to Chanel while also staying true to its roots. She plans on incorporating more delicate fabrics and soft colors into future collections.

Viard’s first collection as Director debuted during Paris Fashion Week in September 2019. The collection showcased her ability to blend classic Chanel elements with modern touches. The show featured models walking down a staircase reminiscent of Coco Chanel’s apartment and included signature tweed jackets paired with trendy accessories like chain belts and chunky boots.

Under Viard’s leadership, Chanel is sure to continue its reign as one of the world’s most iconic fashion houses. Fans of the brand can look forward to seeing her unique vision come to life in future collections.
