Hercules – also known as Heracles – is one of the most famous heroes in Greek mythology. He is known for his strength and bravery which were often tested through his twelve labors. Hercules was also worshipped as a god in some parts of Greece.
The Birth of Hercules
Hercules was born to Zeus and Alcmene – a mortal woman. Zeus took the form of Alcmene’s husband, Amphitryon, to conceive Hercules. The goddess Hera – Zeus’ wife – was jealous of Hercules and made his life difficult by causing many challenges for him to overcome.
Hercules’ Family
As mentioned earlier, Hercules was born to Zeus and Alcmene. He had a twin brother named Iphicles who was mortal. Apart from Iphicles, Hercules had many other siblings from Zeus’ numerous affairs including Hermes.
So, Are Hermes and Hercules Brothers
The answer is yes! Hermes and Hercules are half-brothers since they both share the same father – Zeus.
However, they do not share the same mother. Hermes’ mother is Maia while Hercules’ mother is Alcmene.
