Changing the filter in your Ruud Silhouette furnace is an important part of regular home maintenance. If you do not change the filter regularly, it can lead to your furnace becoming clogged and inefficient, resulting in the need for costly repairs. Fortunately, changing the filter is relatively easy and can be done with only a few tools.
Step 1: Gather all of your supplies. You will need a new furnace filter, a Phillips head screwdriver, and a vacuum cleaner with an extension hose attachment.
Step 2: Turn off the power to your furnace. This can usually be done by turning off the switch on the side of your furnace or by flipping a circuit breaker in your home’s main electrical panel.
Step 3: Locate the filter compartment door. This should be located on either side of your furnace near its base.
Use the Phillips head screwdriver to loosen and remove any screws that are holding it in place.
Step 4: Pull out the old filter and discard it. Use the vacuum cleaner to clean out any dust or debris that may have accumulated inside.
Step 5: Insert your new filter into the compartment and make sure it fits securely. Replace any screws that were removed earlier and then close up the compartment door.
Step 6: Turn on the power to your furnace again. Your new filter should now be successfully installed! Depending on how frequently you use your furnace, you may need to replace this filter every one to three months.
