Did Hermes Make Bender?

If you’re a fan of the popular animated TV show Futurama, you’re probably familiar with Bender – the lovable, beer-guzzling, cigar-smoking, foul-mouthed robot. But have you ever wondered who created him

Was it Professor Farnsworth or perhaps the mad scientist Dr. Wernstrom No, it was neither of them. The answer is Hermes Conrad.

Hermes is often seen as a background character in the show – a bureaucrat working at Planet Express alongside Fry, Leela, Bender, and the rest of the gang. However, in season one’s episode “A Flight to Remember,” we learn that Hermes has some serious robot-building skills.

In the episode, Planet Express takes on a job to transport a group of wealthy passengers on a luxury space cruise. When their ship hits an asteroid and begins to go off course, Hermes steps up to save the day by building his own robot named Roberto. However, things take a turn for the worse when Roberto turns out to be insane and tries to kill everyone on board.

But what about Bender Well, it turns out that Hermes modeled Roberto after his own design for Bender. In season three’s “Bendless Love,” we see flashbacks of Hermes working on Bender’s blueprints before scrapping the project and deciding to build Roberto instead.

So there you have it – although Professor Farnsworth is often credited as being the brains behind Planet Express’ robotic workforce (including Bender), it was actually Hermes who first came up with the idea for everyone’s favorite bending unit.

In conclusion, while Bender may have been created by Professor Farnsworth and built by Mom’s Friendly Robot Company, it was actually Hermes Conrad who first envisioned him and laid the groundwork for his creation. And let’s not forget that without Hermes’ quick thinking and engineering skills in “A Flight to Remember,” we may never have gotten to see Bender’s antics in the rest of the series.
